The Nuances of Legal Video - 4 Critical Points For Success

The recording of video depositions seems straight forward. Seasoned video professionals or young adults with interest in the craft may ask “what’s so hard?” Hard isn't the issue, it’s nuance. And there is more. Nuances are subtle but can pack major punch. Equally critical absolute rules round out what we refer to as legal video best practices. Here are a few of our non-negotiable absolute rules, (we follow them all) and nuances that set us apart as we provide legal video depositions in Houston, Texas.

  • We are never late. There are no excuses. Accidents, weather, closed roads, it doesn't matter. We are always way early. We often arrive in the early morning hours before we have access to our client’s offices but it doesn't matter. We find places for breakfast, stay in the company van, read, or make phone calls. Issues that can affect one’s ability to be on time can also include access to buildings with heightened security procedures, cranky freight elevators and just about anything you can image.
  •  Once inside, never assume anything. Ask questions. Where to set up, how to set up, inquire about special requests, timing issues, etc. Anticipates unknowns. For example we set up more microphones than we may need. Running new audio cables and placing batteries in microphones should be done without attorneys and deponents in the room.
  • We know why we are there - we are guests of the court reporting or legal firms who hire us. We’re there in a service capacity and are not part of the proceedings. Demeanor is key. we have this under control and feel this is a big part of why we stand out from others in our field who provide legal video depositions in Houston.
  •  Housekeeping and good manners are worth their weight in gold. Once we’re ready to go, we arrange our gear whenever possible out of site from others in the room, dress our cables and gather the things we will need during recording neatly and inconspicuously. At the conclusion of the deposition, we always return the room to the condition it was in when we first entered. Chairs in place and even trash from the table. It takes no time at all and we feel speaks volumes to our commitment to customer service.

Of course it goes without saying, our four points for success need to accompany best practices such as properly exposed and color corrected video, “hear a pin drop” professional audio, accurate and timely submission of the final product and an understanding of the need for constant process improvement.

At ARG-Legal video we’re tough on ourselves. We have to be. Yes, there is great need for the recording of legal video depositions in Houston Texas. There is no shortage of work. There is however, lots of competition aiming for the same book of business.
